These pre- and post-care instructions are intended to guide you through treatment and get you to naturally beautiful skin!

Pre-treatment:

  • Wear sunscreen and use physical sun protection. As much as possible.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with the sun, such as at the beach, while traveling to sunny locations, or while sunbathing.
  • In the last six months, let your BBL clinician know if you have been prescribed Accutane by any physician.
  • Ensure your provider knows of any medical conditions or prescriptions affecting your ability to tolerate light, heal wounds, or coagulate.

Post Treatment:

  • Some redness may occur in the treated area but should subside within a day or two.
  • Your pigmented spots may darken, then fade and flake off later on. Follow the aftercare plan until the skin has completely healed – typically one week after treatment.
  • The skin on your body might take longer to heal than your face. Cold compresses or ice packs can provide comfort if the treated area is hot within the first 12 hours after the treatment. An ice pack placed on the treatment area can soothe red or swollen skin (sunburn sensation).
  • Rarely are oral pain relievers prescribed, such as Tylenol Extra Strength or Advil.
  • While the skin is healing, avoid anything irritating, such as exfoliants, shaving, water that is too hot or cold, and swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine.
  • Avoid scrubbing with a soft washcloth and towels. After treatment, wear a wide-brimmed hat or sun-protective clothing to prevent blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation.
  • Avoid heavy exercise and sweating until after the skin has healed.

CLEANSING:

Cleanse the skin twice daily with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Use gentle patting motions, and use your hands and fingertips to clean. The treated area should not be scrubbed, rubbed, or used with an exfoliating soap or skin care brush, e.g., Clarisonic.

MOISTURIZER:

Use clean hands to apply moisturizer generously to the area that needs moisture.

SUNSCREEN:

Daily use of sunscreen begins the day of treatment and should continue throughout treatment. Apply sunscreen with Broadband UVA and UVB protection and a SPF of at least 30. Remember to reapply sunscreen after sun exposure. For 14 days, do not expose your skin to direct sunlight. Sunburn and pigmentation changes are more likely to occur in the treated area.

FAQs

A good candidate is someone looking to address concerns such as pigmentation issues, age spots, broken capillaries, facial redness, and rosacea. It’s suitable for individuals seeking a non-invasive treatment to rejuvenate and maintain youthful skin.

There is no downtime and most patients can resume their normal activities immediately. It is common to experience temporary redness, swelling, and darkening of pigmented spots, all of which usually subside within a few days.

Results can vary, but many patients notice improvements within a week after the first treatment. Over time, a series of treatments can produce optimal results.

Before treatment, avoid sun exposure and inform your provider of any medications or medical conditions. After treatment, follow post-care instructions, such as using gentle cleansers, moisturizers, and applying sunscreen regularly. For a few days, do not expose yourself to direct sunlight or engage in strenuous activities.

The longevity of results can depend on various factors, including skin type and lifestyle. With proper skincare and sun protection, results can last for several months to a year. Regular maintenance treatments are recommended to prolong the effects.

During the treatment, you’ll wear eye protection, and a cooling gel is applied to the skin. You may feel a warm sensation or a snap similar to a rubber band. Each session typically lasts about 20-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated. The procedure is generally well-tolerated and considered safe.
